The institute, sponsored by Parisar Trust and Charutar Vidya Mandal, was established in 1980. It is devoted to the cause of design education in various branches of learning, particularly in the professional field. Placed in the serene and congenial educational environment of Vallabh Vidyanagar, the campus is like an extension of nature with open spaces and natural landscape, just the kind of place that inspires creativity. The institute has the following three schools of study and learning:

1. D.C. Patel School of Architecture: It offers five-year (10 semesters) B.Arch. course, recognised by AICTE & Council of Architecture, New Delhi. Degree is awarded by the Sardar Patel University. Eligibility for admission is Higher Secondary (XII standard) passed in Science Stream.

2. H.M. Patel School of Interior Design:The school offers the following courses.
a. Three-year (6 semesters) under - graduate programme leading to Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Eligibility for admission is Higher Secondary (XII standard) passed in any stream.

b. Two-year (4 semesters) post-graduate programme in Master in Interior Design. Eligibility for admission is Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design. Both the degrees are awarded by the Sardar Patel University.

3. Bhaikaka Centre for Human Settlements: The Centre runs two - year (4 semesters) post-graduate programme in urban planning, leading to Sardar Patel University's degree of Master in Urban Planning. Eligibility for admission is B.E. (Civil / Water Management / Construction / Environmental Engineering) or B.Arch. or Diploma in Architecture.
